Introduction to the presentation of Alonso Gil

I consider Quico one of the most interesting artists, both as a painter and a writer. We met in the early 90`s and over the years our friendship developed and consolidated a joint artistic vision. I collaborated with his publications first with El Refractor and later with La infiltracion and their corresponding physical spaces; refractarios and El Carbon. Quico always encouraged, helped and showed me to do many things.

We had various journeys together with the aim to produce a monograph which he was writing about my work, we had many adventures which in general ended well. Untiring in his desire for action, he always created enthusiasm for the abundant ideas that circulated in his head.

I painted his portrait a few months before he died.

My head is full of unforgettable memories and I miss him very much.

The series of drawings that I am working on, for the homage to Quico, deals with the relationship between pigs and humans. In the drawings the pigs are always found in a dirty and highly polluted landscape, where they are in delicate and gentle postures from the Kama Sutra. The birth of this idea was a drawing I did of a pair of pigs dancing and in love in front of an oil refinery. Quico was fascinated by the image and it became for both of us a point of departure to make jokes and commentaries about the world in general.
